The Greater Kansas City Restaurant Association is a trade association with more than 600 members throughout the metro area. For nearly 100 years, the GKCRA has represented the interests of all area restaurants in navigating regulations, developing resources, educating on operational issues and supporting the next generation of service-industry entrepreneurs. Members include traditional restaurants, caterers, hospitals, schools, institutions, clubs, cafeterias and vendors passionate about the continued success of the hospitality industry in Kansas City. Association volunteers and executives work tirelessly every day to represent, educate and promote the restaurant and hospitality industries in both Missouri and Kansas.

The GKCRA plays an active role in representing the interest of area restaurants in both state and local government. Members sit on regulatory and advisory boards holding interests of the hospitality industry in Kansas City. Members also regularly visit elected officials in Jefferson City and Topeka to advocate on behalf of the restaurant industry.

The GKCRA works on behalf of members to educate them on changing regulations, resource development and operational issues that affect the restaurant industry’s bottom line.

The association also works to support the education of the next generation of service-industry professionals. Each year, the GKCRA awards thousands of dollars in scholarships to deserving students seeking a career in the hospitality industry. Members and volunteers also work with 23 area high schools on their ProStart programs, a national career-building program for students interested in the culinary arts and food service management.

The GKCRA works to promote Kansas City’s restaurant community through membership and city-wide events. The association, in partnership with Visit KC, founded Kansas City Restaurant Week in 2010 to promote citywide dining during the traditionally slow month of January. The event is now the city’s most highly-anticipated dining event, attracting diners from around the region and raising thousands of dollars each year for local charities.

In addition, the GKCRA promotes membership with regular social events and networking opportunities.
