The Missouri Restaurant Association Educational Foundation was founded to further the educational mission of the Missouri Restaurant Association. A 501(C)(3) charitable organization, the foundation funds the ProStart School-to-Career program in Missouri’s high schools and technical centers along with providing educational assistance in the form of scholarships.
The ProStart Program provides culinary and management training for the future leaders of the industry. ProStart students receive classroom training, mentored work experience, marketable job skills, and access to college scholarships. Currently, there are approximately 4,000 ProStart students in 107 high schools and technical centers in Missouri. ProStart students have the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in annual state and national culinary and management competitions. The student teams are judged by industry professionals and receive face-to-face feedback and suggestions for improvement, in addition to a numerical score.
As a strong supporter of educational training, a mission of the foundation is to provide monetary funds for post-secondary students pursuing a career in the industry. Last year, the foundation and its affiliated chapters throughout the state, awarded over $50,000 in scholarships, including $20,750 in matching scholarship funds provided by the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation. The foundation’s scholarships provide meaningful tuition assistance and documented results.
