The University of Missouri has long been home to farm-to-table scholarship. Now Mizzou’s successful hospitality management program is getting a refresh to meet growing demand for employees with college education. MU has retooled its online bachelor of science in hospitality management to create more opportunities for students in the management of all hospitality sectors, particularly in conferences & events, food & beverage sites, lodging facilities, and sports venues.

Missouri minimum wage increases to $7.85 on Jan. 1, 2018 »

Missouri’s minimum wage is subject to change each year based on changes in the Consumer Price Index for Urban Wage Earners and Clerical Workers, commonly known as CPI-W.  In November, the Missouri Department of Labor and Industrial Relations announced the state minimum wage will increase 15 cents to $7.85 effective January 1, 2018.

As we do every year, we are reaching out for help.  We need judges for the Culinary Competition and the Management Competition.  A required judges’ orientation will be held Thursday evening, February 15, at the Oasis.  The competition begins at 7:00 a.m. on Friday and runs until 4:00 p.m.

Yount Awarded Scholarships by Missouri Restaurant Association Chapters »

Missouri Restaurant Association recently announced that 2016 Clearwater High School graduate Nathan Yount had been awarded scholarships by the association’s Southeast Missouri and Greater St. Louis chapters. In receiving the awards, Nathan becomes part of the MRA scholarship class of 2017 – a group of 52 outstanding students from across the state.

The National Restaurant Association’s Educational Foundation is working hard to create career pathways for restaurant, foodservice and hospitality employees, particularly through its new apprenticeship program. We officially launched the apprenticeship program earlier this year, after the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprenticeship awarded us a $1.8 million contract to help fund the project. We expect to enroll 450 apprentices by year-end.

The Justice Department told the court it would rethink the minimum salary a worker must make before he is deemed “managerial” and not eligible for overtime pay. The Trump administration said in a Texas court filing that it would rewrite an Obama-era rulemaking that dramatically expanded the number of workers covered by federal overtime rules.
